Collection: Mason Stains

Mason is one of the leading stain manufacturers in the United States. We carry a wide variety of the Mason color line. They are extremely versatile and give color to glazes, slips, and clay bodies. Most can be used at any temperature.

Note: unless you are experimenting with unusual techniques, do not attempt to simply brush on stains mixed with water. They need to be fixed in a medium such as a slip or glaze which can then be brushed on.

Founded by James Mason of England in 1842, Mason Color Works (previously Bleak Place Color Works) has always been a family business. Now, Mason is one of the leading stain manufacturers in the United States. We carry a wide variety of the Mason color line. They are extremely versatile and give color to glazes, slips, and clay bodies. These fired colors should be consistent with the raw state pigment and can be fired any all temperatures (except tin-antimony-lead yellows and pinks fire to cone 10).

Note: unless you are experimenting with unusual techniques, do not attempt to simply brush on stains mixed with water. They need to be fixed in a medium such as a slip or glaze which can then be brushed on.
