For a fuss-free wheel throwing experience, pottery kick wheels are the way to go. They are often motorless making them very low maintenance and will usually last a lifetime. You only need to use your feet to keep the pottery kick wheel moving. They are great for both left-handed and right-handed throwing because it easily allows for both counter-clockwise and clockwise rotation of the wheelhead. What’s more, some potters say that pottery kick wheels gives a better feel (zen-like almost) and control for the throwing process.
However, pottery kick wheels are extremely difficult to move and transport compared to other types of wheels because of their weight. Prolonged use of pottery kick wheels can also lead to knee problems in the future for they demand a fair amount of physical input from the potter.
