All North Star Slab Rollers have two
rollers, much like the
wringer of an old-fashioned washing machine. The two rolls turning
together pull slabs through easily, and the vertical adjustment of the
top roll gives an easy to set and infinitely adjustable thickness from
paper thin to over 2 inches.

Northstar Standard Slab Rollers come with a life time warranty for
home use, and 2 years for commercial and educational settings.
Super Models come with a life time warranty for all use including
commercial and educational. If you are purchasing a slab roller for
these applications, we recommend upgrading to the Super Slab Roller
models.
Tips on choosing a slab roller; We love the NorthStar slab
rollers because there are no shims, and you can adjust slab thicknesses
anywhere from 0" to over 2" thick (2.75" for standard and
2.25" for super machines.) There are no chains
or cables, or clumsy shims. They are extremely durable. They make a great,
sturdy, work table. And the clay is evenly compressed on both
sides, so slabs warp less. Drive train gears are made of nylon
because it is impervious to clay dust, does not require lubrication and
will "give" just enough to allow rolls to run out of parallel
when needed. Super series machines use steel reduction gears at
the handle (these are never required to run out of true so nylon is not
needed.)
For occasional use the Standard Slab Roller is perfect.
However, if you plan to do a lot of slabbing, such as making large
sculptures and architectural pieces or production work, or if you just
like to make your life easier, then the Super models are well worth the
extra money. They are geared so they can really reduce the clay in
one pass, rather than taking several passes. If you used a slab
roller in college or at a large studio, the Super models would probably
be more like what you are used to.
STANDARD - Good for home and occasional use. Package includes
48" Table.
SUPER - Best for high use. Gear reduced: get more clay through in
1 pass. Commercial/school settings must get Super to get lifetime
warranty. Package includes 72" Table

Constructed of heavy gauge steel pipe and plate, precision
machined parts, permanently sealed bearings and aircraft quality
cables. Beds consist of Masonite shims the size of the table,
which can be removed or added to vary the slab thickness. The
roller mechanism is moved over the bed and clay by a circular wagon
wheel handle driving a double cable system (except SRC which has a
crank). |
Mini SRC:
Portable, yet extremely sturdy, this slab
roller is compact enough to fit on a table while rolling out slabs up to
14" by 15" It is constructed of steel
pipe and bent plate like the SRC so it will last for many years.
The patented cable drive system with opposing rollers produces even
pressure along the bed. It includes one 1/4" and two
1/8" thick shims and will roll slabs up to 3/4" 61 lbs.

New Mini-22 utilizes the same dependable "dual roller
drive" process as other Bailey models. Both rollers are made of
solid steel and coated with a permanent abrasive epoxy finish.
Each roller is driven by 3/4 inch wide steel gears.

A sturdy hand crank delivers ample leverage to roll slabs through
the machine. Roller delivers perfectly even slabs every
time. Clay is compressed in one pass through the rollers.
The roller position is fixed, so the slab thickness is varied by adding
or removing masonite shims. When feeding bulk clay through the
machine, the clay can be piled approximately 5/8" plus the
thickness of the slab intended. Includes shims and a slab sheet.

30" model has gear reduction, with all steel
gears. 24" comes in standard and gear reduction
models. Gear reduction means you turn the wheel more times but
each turn is easier to make. Therefore you can put more clay
through at a time. The "feed" side of the table is
shorter and lower lower. Slabrollers with gear reduction should
only be rolled in one direction.
Most people upgrade to one of the round handle options.
