Plasti-Bat
Plasti-Bat was designed by studio potters to be a versatile,
long-lasting, high-quality bat that is virtually indestructible.
Made of 1/4" -3/8" thick, very rigid, high impact plastic, they
will provide continuous use, will not splinter, delaminate, swell or
shrink. Easy to clean and are impervious to water and most
chemicals. Has a non-absorbent, positive adherence surface so clay
does not slide or turn loose while centering. Note:
All our wheels are sold with bat pins, which hold the bats in place. The
majority of people buy drilled bats. Even if some has a wheel
without bat pins, they can be easily added. It is not difficult
to drill through the wheel head and add pins. plastibat

Northstar Throwing Bats
Duron -
Often called "Masonite" is 1/4 inch thick, smooth on both
sides, least expensive.
Medex -
Wood product without formaldehyde. Handles clay
like wood or Duron. Water proof, no warping,
extremely strong. Will not degrade like particle board. More
expensive but PERMANENT.

The Universal Insert Bat
Saves a great amount of shelf space when making pieces with a
small "footprint". The outer bat is 1/2 inch thick Medex
and the inserts are 1/4 inch Duron which fit flush with the top of the
outer bat. Inserts remove easily
yet fit snugly enough that the cavity stays free of clay and slurry.

Blue Plastic Bats
If you like the Plasti-bats but need a less
expensive solution, this is the answer. Blue plastic, matte both
sides. 1/4" thick. Sized to hang 1/2" over your wheel head
for easy removal (use 13" size for 12" wheel head, and
15" size for a 14" wheel head.) Drilled with 10"
spacing. If you want custom drilled
plastic bats, we can get these blue plastic bats custom drilled by the
manufacturer. You have to order in full cases of 10 for this
service. A separate shipping charge for custom drilled bats will apply.

PlasterBat
Mold Kit NEW!
The Lester PlasterBat System is so easy to use
that anyone can make their own PlasterBats. It produces a
7/8" thick plaster bats with a 12.5" diameter working
surface. PlasterBats are designed for potters that want the
benefits of plaster and the ease and convenience of bat pins.
Plaster bats are great for all uses, particularly large platters and
plates, because plaster bats self-release as the clay dries. The
system works on any wheel with two opposing bat pins, 9-10 inches apart.
The PlasterBat mold is made of tough ABS plastic for durability and long
life.
It comes with easy-to-follow instructions
(preview them here).
The PlasterBat System is designed to use USG No. 1 Pottery Plaster for
optimum strength and absorption (plaster is not included). The
resulting PlasterBats will have a hard, smooth, flat, flawless working
surface.

Pour your own plaster bats using flat mold
(10", 13", 15" or 18"). Press Quick Release
Part 1 (mold) into plastic while wet to make impression. When bats
dry, they fit right onto the Quick Release Part II (wheel head), making
it easy to attach and switch between plaster bats. 18" bats
require 18" adapter. Molded from very tough plastic for
extreme durability.
In additional to flat bats, you can use this
system with the optional bowl and plate shaped bats, where you "throw"
the clay over the hump while it is on the spinning wheel. It is
easy to throw feet onto the bowl at this time, rather than trimming

With the Pure & Simple Bat Mold System you
can produce plate sets more quickly an easily.
Throwing on a domed bat allows you to throw
lids, bowls, and plates complete w/ no trimming necessary.
