Pot Bottom Grinder Disks for Pottery Wheel
|
This method uses 12 inch diameter silicon carbide grinding discs with
a peel-off adhesive backing. You affix this disc to any 12 inch bat
which is then attached to the wheel head. Grinding is done at the
fastest wheel head speed. The 50 grit takes off material fastest
(including small glaze drips) while the 80 grit gives the
smoothest finish. It's alright to use water on the grinding surface.

Advantages
 | Grinds smooth the surface that actually touches the table.
 | Low initial cost - you already have the machine (your wheel).
 | Grinds bottoms flat so the piece won't rock. |
| |
Disadvantages
 | Higher cost per belt/disc and lower production rates. Example, 10
seconds per mug bottom. |
