In the past, fire kilns were the only option. However, now there are gas and electric kilns with electric being the more popular option. There are many reasons to choose large electric ceramic kilns over gas kilns. The main advantage is they are easy to start up. Gas kilns are known for being temperamental. It can also be tough to get them installed, which is usually not a concern with electric kilns. Finally, electric kilns provide more vibrant colors and are the best option for firing glass pieces.
When choosing a kiln, you have several different brands from which to choose. These include Amaco, ConeArt, Cress, L&L, Olympic, Paragon and Skutt. Each brand has different benefits to offer. For example, Amaco and Paragon kilns are ideal for beginners because they are easy to set up and use. ConeArt kilns have extra insulation, so they are able to fire at higher cone levels.
Choosing a kiln should be done with care. Your kiln will affect what you can create and the end results of your projects. You should always look at the different features and compare your options.
