In Beginning Raku, Gordon Hutchens introduces beginning potters to the techniques of Raku, which is a type of traditional Japanese pottery.

Gordon begins the DVD with a lesson on the desirable properties of clay for Raku, and how to prepare the clay.

He makes several pots which are bisque fired, then decorated using methods that take advantage of the unique characteristics of Raku.

After preparing his pots, Gordon teaches how to make a simple kiln from a 55 gallon drum.

When he fires the pots, he demonstrates how to achieve the distinctive Raku effects.

This DVD includes glaze recipes and a materials list for the kiln.
