Holiday Projects

  • I regularly attend an event that benefits kids from 1-100 with disabilities. They auction off a lot of cool stuff but one of my favorites is the paintings done by the horses and their dog named "Blue."

As a matter of fact I have several hanging on my studio wall. They remind me, that all things great and small, add beauty to our world!

Recently, on a social media site, I ran across paintings done by a dog... Ok, he had a little help from his humans, but it gave me an idea for our blog. Why not do it on clay with some underglaze???

Grab your coffee, some play clothes, a fur baby, and follow me to the studio! Don't have your own fur baby? You may want to borrow one because this is really cool!

  • Giving mom a hand for Mother's Day has new meaning. This cute project is sure to brighten her day and last a lifetime. And if that's not reason enough, they can be made from self-hardening and air dry clay so anyone can make them!

Another benefit to these little hands... you can impress or underglaze the child's fingerprint(s) into the clay for lasting identification, and when they are done they make a perfect jewelry dish!

Ready to get started? Grab the kids and let's head to the studio!

  • Are you looking for a clay project for your little ones? One that they will absolutely adore? How about an Easter Bunny? It is that time of year...

Well, here is a really easy and super cute one for them, and all you need is a paint brush and popsicle stick. It can be made of air dry and self-hardening, stoneware, porcelain, earthenware, and even polymer clay! Heck, you can even make it out of play doh!

  • Christians all around the world are decorating their homes with items that symbolize Easter. The one piece that symbolizes Easter best, is the cross, for that's where the Easter Festival begins.

If you're looking for an Easter project that will add a special touch to your home, or to give as a gift, this is the one. You only need about a 1/2 pound of clay, your hands, a bit of water, a scoring tool, and the desire to bring Christ into your home this season.

  • Along with the meaning of Easter, one of the first things that come to mind when I think of Easter... is of course... eggs. Pink ones, purple ones, blue ones, yellow ones... you get what I'm saying right?

When I think of the eggs, I also think of how to glaze them, then how to display them. I know... they go in the Easter basket... but what about all those cute little ones? I'm putting mine in a nest this year.

Not only will it help me with Easter decorations, they can stay out all spring long as part of the decor´!

  • Easter baskets are a must have! I'm not sure about you, but as Easter nears, I find myself trying to come up with ideas to "dress up" the Easter baskets I make.

I've done all sorts of things in the past to dress them up... texture, applique', weaving, ropes, funky colors and shapes... but this year, I'm adding a new spin to them... cut-outs.

Cut-outs can be added to wheel thrown or hand built projects. They can also be bent and twisted to make them stand out away from the body of the project for a 3D effect.

You can get real creative with them or you can keep them real simple. How much effort you put into the design is your choice... I'm going to do a little simple and a little more detailed.

  • I LOVE ANGELS! They have to be one of my favorite accessories. Not only are the representative of many things, they are beautiful and welcoming, and I make a lot of them during the holiday season.

Some people only think of angels near Christmas, however; a lot of people display them all year round, so why not capitolize on it with salt and pepper shaker angels?

In today's post, I will show you an easy way to make angel shakers, but feel free to modify the project to create other shapes.

  • Holiday parties are upon us! Want to dress up your party? Why not make some bottle toppers that not only show your holiday spirit, but your unique personality, and amazing talent!

They can be made for any holiday, but since Christmas is just around the corner, we'll do some winter focused toppers.

The great thing about this project is you can even make them out of self-hardening and air dry clays. It's a great project for the kids to make for soda and juice bottles, you can put them atop oil and vinegar bottles, and you can even just set them on a shelf as a decoration.

  • I've hosted several coil bowl workshops this month and it really sparked my interest in building with coils myself. I've done a colander, fruit bowl, and now... a Christmas Tree!

Coils are a great way to go big with your clay while keeping the project as unique as your fingerprints. No matter how hard you try, you will never make two exactly alike!

The tree in today's post is a great Christmas decoration, or it can be displayed all year long with the rest of your "woodsy" decor'.
