Paragon Janus

It's a new digital firebrick kiln called the Janus.  It is designed to fire both glass and pottery.  It has heating elements in the top and sides.  Special ceramic fiber paper covers the top element to help prevent dust from falling onto the glass.  The sidewall elements are seated in dropped, recessed grooves.

You can choose between glass and ceramic firing with a toggle switch.  In the glass position, heat comes from the top element and one sidewall element.  In the ceramic position, heat comes from all six rows of sidewall elements; the lid element remains off.  The Janus kilns use the 12-key Sentry digital controller and includes Cone-Fire and Ramp-Hold modes.

All models Rated to 2350°F (cone 10).
240v, 208v, single or 3 phase, 50 or 60 hz all available
All models have 3" brick

Janus Ovation Glass-Ceramic Kiln  new!

KNPGOVATION114.jpg (26214 bytes)

The Paragon Janus Ovation can fire both pottery and glass. Heating elements are mounted in the top and sidewalls.  Select between glass and pottery with the flip of a switch.  With the switch in the glass position, heat comes from the top elements and the middle sidewall element.  With the switch in the pottery position, heat comes from only the sidewall elements.

KNPGOVATION114open.jpg (30102 bytes)

In the glass mode, fuse and sag large glass projects placed on a single shelf.  In the pottery mode, fire to cone 10.  You can also fire several shelves of smaller glass pieces in pottery mode.

If you have been firing a smaller kiln, you will be amazed at the space inside the Janus Ovation.  Fire large projects such as bowls or platters in one load.  Imagine how many clay or glass pendants you could fire in the Janus Ovation.  As you can see, firing production loads can quickly pay for this kiln.

Patented dual spring-assisted lid supports transfer the weight of the lid to a massive hinge assembly on the back of the kiln.  This reduces the stress on the kiln wall to give your kiln the long life that Paragon kilns are famous for.

The elements in the lid are mounted in a firebrick “ball” groove that eliminates element pins.  The element coils are wider than the groove opening, so the elements stay in place without pins.  The groove dissipates heat efficiently.  The lid element grooves and inner lid surface are coated for long life.

The patented control box on the Janus Ovation opens forward for easy maintenance. A folding support arm holds the box in the open position.

The digital Sentry 2.0 includes two modes:  Cone-Fire with programmed slow cooling and 18-Segment Ramp-Hold.  It is manufactured by the Orton Ceramic Foundation exclusively for Paragon.

Glass/pottery selection switch

Janus Dragon Glass-Ceramic Kiln  new!

KNPGDRAGON-alt.jpg (19487 bytes)

The Janus Dragon is an industrial furnace that fires both pottery and glass.  Select between glass and pottery with the flip of a switch.  With the switch in the glass position, heat comes from the top elements and the middle sidewall element.  With the switch in the pottery position, heat comes from only the sidewall elements.

In the glass mode, fuse and sag large glass projects placed on a single shelf.  In the pottery mode, you can fire up to cone 10.  You can also fire several shelves of smaller glass pieces using the pottery mode.

The elements in the roof are mounted in a firebrick “ball” groove that eliminates element pins.  The element coils are wider than the groove opening, so the elements stay in place without pins.  The groove dissipates heat efficiently.

KNPGDragonJanus.jpg (57477 bytes)

The Janus Dragon has 4” thick walls.  The top and door are made of 3” firebrick backed by 1” of ceramic fiber block insulation.  The floor is 4 ½” thick firebrick.  The extra insulation not only saves energy but also cools slowly.  This gives the micro-crystalline structure and color of the glaze sufficient time for full development.

Potters who struggle with top-loading kilns will enjoy the Janus Dragon.  The door swings open wide on a heavy Ύ” steel rod with sealed bearings.  Two spring-loaded latches press the door tightly closed.

The Janus Dragon will fit through a 34” doorway if the handles and back element cover are temporarily removed.
