Kiln Furniture (shelves and posts)
All kilns have furniture kits available that have been configured by the
manufacturer to suit most buyers needs. However you may have
specific furniture needs. If you fire tiles, for example, you may want many more
layers of shelving that if you typically fire tall objects. Also,
posts are
available in all different lengths.
So if the pre-configured furniture kit does not suit you, let us know what your needs are
and we can help put something together for you.
If you are not sure what you'll need, we usually recommend that you buy more furniture
than you think you'll need. The reason being that we often get
customers who realize later that they need more furniture. It's easy to
ship extra shelves with the kiln shipment, but can be very expensive to ship it later. You
can expect a minimum shipping charge (for just shelves) to be $130-$160.
You may find more shelves locally, but
many people report that their local suppliers do not stock shelves in
the correct sizes.
Another thing to keep in mind is the temperature you are firing
to. The hotter the temperatures, and the larger the shelves, the
thicker the shelves need to be. Most shelves are 5/8", 3/4" or 1"
thick. Manufacturers have typically matched the thicknesses of
their shelves with their kilns very well (the higher fire kilns have thicker shelves) but if
your needs are different, we can make substitutions.
