Cress Electronic Kilns

The Cress E- Series electronic kiln features the most advanced electronic control on the market.  It provides 5 (rather than 3) preset easy-to-use firing speeds, plus available custom programming capability, for an almost infinitely flexible range of firing profiles.  The Cress electronic control also includes a short temperature soak at the end of each firing cycle to ensure greater temperature uniformity with uneven loads.  Most “E” series kilns now have 3-zone capable controls, but are initially connected up for one zone.  This keeps maintenance to a minimum using one thermocouple instead of three.  Temperature uniformity is superb by design and not brute force.  Multi-zone temperature controls may be ordered at  additional cost at the time order is placed.  

Cress kilns have considerably more insulation between the heat and the electronics to ensure high reliability, and a safety master switch is included to protect against power surges when the kiln is not in use.  Cress is now the first to include heat reflective stands to greatly reduce the floor temperature when firing.

The optional Cress Clean Air system simply plugs into the bottom of the control panel.  Patented multilevel venting prevents cross contamination of colors, giving you the cleanest, brightest colors yet, and is especially helpful for firing metallics and lusters.  Metal dryer ducting vent fumes outdoors.  

The Clean air system starts when the kiln starts, then turns off automatically when the firing is complete.  After slow cooling to 1000F (to reduce possible stress cracks in your ware) the fan restart to cool faster and again turns off at 140F when the load may be safely unloaded.  New features include stopping fan at pre-set temperature and restarting at 1000º F to gently cool to 140º F, when it turns off for unloading.  You get  a little quicker cool down with the best annealed and strongest pieces possible.  This unit is now certified by CSA and certified to UL standard 499 for use on Cress kilns.  It reduces cross contamination of firing colors by exhausting the fumes separately from the top, middle, and bottom.

Cress B Series kilns include Dawson kiln sitter and limit timer, superior locking lid brace, two position lid venting prop, insulated peephole plugs, instruction manual and permanently attached instruction plate, infinite power adjustment control(s), heavy gauge elements electrically trimmed for superior temperature uniformity, preassembled kiln stand, lifting handles, steel bottom safety plate, adjustable case clamps, reinforced lid band, three year warranty including elements, and professional packing for safe delivery.

Cress Firemate Control Kilns 

Cress FX Firemate Kilns are patented in 16 countries for their unique control system, which gradually increases power to the kiln throughout the firing process.  This provides the advantages of firing as rapidly as possible without heat shocking the ware, and of being extremely energy efficient.  The Firemate even senses and adjusts for room temperature and small voltage changes coming into your home or business to give you highly repeatable and consistent firing results.  The elements are electrically adjusted from top to bottom to give the most uniform firing possible.

Options available on all kilns:

Salt Air Option: Order this option for humid areas and near beach areas.  It includes stainless screws and stainless safety bottom plates.  Add 5% to price.  In areas within 1/2 mile of the beach, we recommend also adding the Cone 12 option.  The Cone 12 elements are best for high salt air environments.
