Bisque Kilns
There is nothing special about a bisque kiln. Bisque is a low
temperature firing and all the kilns (except glass kilns) will do the job
fine. But often people want the largest kiln they can get with a
limited amount of power, and they prefer a plug which requires a kiln 48
amps or lower. (Sometimes they are also doing low fire glaze,
which does not require higher temperatures, and sometimes they do their
glaze firing in a gas kiln.) The following kilns are great for
this purpose.
L&L E28T
10.2 cubic feet, fires to Cone 8, 48 amps with a 6-50 plug. A
great price with a lot of great features including an electronic
controller.
Skutt 1227 9.9 cubic feet,
fires to Cone 8, 48 amps with a 6-50 plug. Manual and electronic
models available.
Paragon 28-3 10.57 cubic
feet, fires to Cone 4, 45 amps with a plug at 240v. (208v model is more
amps and requires a direct wire.)
Olympic Oval Kilns Many
models are less than 48 amps and have a plug.
Olympic 2831 11.57 cubic
feet, fires to Cone 6.
Please remember that all kilns are suitable for bisque kilns.
The ones listed here are simply kilns that have the maximum size,
minimum cost, not necessarily the highest firing temperatures, and a
plug, which we get many requests for. These are exactly NOT the
kilns you would buy for Cone 10 firings.
