Skutt Kiln Controllers
Skutt features
customized Bartlett Controller on their kilns. In many cases
they provide direct access to handy features, and provide excellent kiln
firing control.

Skutt
KilnMaster Controller
The
KilnMaster Controller provides the user with a much more convenient and
precise way of firing their kiln. It is available as a wall mount unit
for upgrading existing manual kilns or factory installed on a wide range
of Skutt kiln sizes.
KILNMASTER
FEATURES
CONE
FIRE MODE
The Cone Fire Mode runs preprogrammed firing schedules that were
designed to optimally fire ceramics at the speed, cone number and hold
time you input. They automatically slow down at critical phases
such as the quartz inversion phase.
RAMP
& HOLD MODE
This mode lets the operator design their own firing schedule with up
to 8 segments. A segment includes: a rate, a temperature and a hold
time. It will even hold in permanent memory up to 6 of your most
frequently used programs. You can program slow cooling as well,
for working with crystal glazes.
DELAY
& ALARM
After entering a program in either mode the controller will ask you if
you want to input a specific temperature for an Alarm to sound.
It will
then ask if you if you would like to Delay the start time of the kiln.
This is helpful when you want to have the firing end at a time that is
convenient for you to be present, or to save on energy bills by using
at off-peak times. The controls may be viewed in degrees F or
degrees C.
New
Features
Current Sensing
– No more hiring expensive technicians to perform basic electrical
tests. Every KilnMaster and GlassMaster Skutt Kiln is now equipped
with a current sensor that allows remote technicians to troubleshoot
your kiln right over the phone, The current sensor reads your voltage
and amperage with just a few easy keystrokes accessed from the
completely redesigned Menu function key. It can also check the
board temperature, LED readout and a host of other useful
troubleshooting data.
New
Safety Features – Ever worry about a student or employee entering
the wrong temperature or cone value and causing a meltdown in your
kiln? You can now enter a maximum programmable temperature which
makes it impossible. You can also program the kiln so it
requires 2 key presses to start the program. This prevents
accidental starts by curious passerby's.

Skutt
GlassMaster
Ease of
Programming
The key layout on the GlassMaster is designed to be easy to understand
and efficient. Multifunction keys allow you to load and review
saved programs with a minimum amount of key strokes.
Adjustments can be made even during the firing without interruption.
Beginners and professionals alike will appreciate the logical design of
the layout.
Innovative
Features
There are two programming modes available on the GlassMaster.
Glass Fire
Mode allows
you to access factory installed programs designed for general fusing,
slumping, and tack fusing. While the type of glass, the thickness, and
the techniques may vary with each project there are some general
heating and annealing principals that are common.
The Glass Fire Mode allows you to choose from 3 different firing
speeds and since you control the point at which the kiln goes into the
annealing phase this easy programming mode can be used quite often.
Ramp Hold Mode
allows you to design and store your own programs for specialized
projects. You can use up to 16 segments which consist of a
temperature, a heating or cooling rate, and a hold time if one is
desired. You can store up to 6 of your programs for easy recall.
The Add Time, Add Temp, and Anneal features allow you to control the
final segment of the heating phase so the kiln begins annealing when
you want it to.
The View key allows you to check the current segment. The display
constantly displays the temperature and hold times throughout the
firing.

Dawson KilnSitter
"MANUAL"
CONTROL
The Kiln
Sitter is a time proven automatic shut off device. The reason it
is considered "manual" is because you need to manually turn up
the kiln heat during the firing cycle.
A
pyrometric cone is inserted in the tube assembly of the Kiln Sitter.
When the cone bends after the proper amount of heat-work an arm moves
which releases a weighted trigger which in turn opens the electrical
contacts in the Kiln Sitter.
A timer is
used as a safety back up. Once you have a good idea of your firing
cycle time you set the timer to be about 15 minutes longer than your
cycle is supposed to take. NOTE: The timer can easily be
disconnected if you don't want to use it.
The timer is set for slightly longer than the anticipated firing length
and turns off the kiln in case the tube assembly mechanism fails to
active.
