L&L has 4 kiln families. The Jupiter
Series (J and JD models), the Easy-Fire Series (easy-fire models and
Liberty~Belle), the
DaVinci production kilns, and the new Easy-Load front load kilns.
Many features are common to all families
The Jupiter Series has been L&L's sectional,
round, top load kiln line for many years. The major benefits of this
line is that it is extremely flexible. You can add and remove
rings for firing large and small loads. You can often buy
additional rings later to make your kiln larger. You can have a
kiln sitter, an electronic controller, or both; 2.5" or 3"
brick; heated bottoms; and a variety of other custom
options.
The new Easy-Fire Series was designed to be low cost
and comes with many features standard. However, you cannot
customize these much. If you do not want any of the unique special
features L&L offers, these are your best value.
The DaVinci Series are high power production kilns. They are
almost rectangular so are great for firing tiles and other square
objects. They also are extremely flexible with respect to options,
similar to the Jupiter kilns.
The Easy-Load are also high power production kilns. Built with
3" brick insulation plus 2" of mineral wood, and interlocking
firebricks to prevent heat leakage.
Features of all L&L Kiln Models
Unique Dyna Glow Element holders provide easier maintenance and more
efficient firing of the kiln, helps prevent dusting. Firebrick
lasts much longer. Safe retention of elements.
Zone control from top to bottom, allows you to even out the
heat for perfect firing results.
Detachable instrument panel, stands off case (to keep electronics
cool for longer life) - Except easy-fire where the panel is mounted
similar to other brands of kilns.
Manual models; Dawson Kiln Sitter/Timer standard on manual models.
Infinite switches on manual models.
Electronic models: DynaTrol replaces manual switches and Kiln Sitter/Timer.
Operation of the kiln, including zone control for even firing, is
completely automated. An On/Off switch and control fuse are
included. Dynamic Zone Control automatically controls a top, middle and bottom
zone. There are three separate thermocouples for precise
measurement of zone temperature. (Kiln will still fire with only
one or two thermocouples.) In three section kilns each section is
one zone. In four and five section kilns the middle zone consists
of two or three center sections. In two section kilns only two
zones are used. Accuracy is better than 1/2 cone top to bottom.
User can easily upgrade kiln later by adding wired rings
Reversible Bottom.
Easy open, spring loaded hinge (standard on all models 28" and
up, optional on smaller Jupiter kilns.)
Large Peepholes with easily removable plugs; 2 handles on each
section, stainless steel case, galvanized steel stand and hinge for long
life, UL approved
3 year warranty on parts and labor (does not include element
replacement based on standard use). Elements are included on a
prorated basis, with some exceptions.
Optional Features
Industrial thermocouples protection tubes for longer life : L&L
is now offering special Industrial Mullite Protection Tubes. They
have longer life than the metallic sheathed thermocouples or exposed
thermocouples, offer protection from contamination found in clay such as
sulfur, no metal spalling in the kiln, and are cheaper than the replacement cost
for thermocouples. Standard on easy-fire kilns.
Powered bottom: Not available on easy-fire kilns.
Heavy duty elements almost double your number of firings (depending
on temperature): Standard on easy-fire kilns.
Custom Options (on Jupiter and DaVinci
kilns)
KISS software package, 25 foot cable and RS485/232 converter that
plugs into a windows based computer are available for $325, plus $75 for
each additional kiln. This software can monitor up to 10
kilns. Download profiles, chart/graph actual firing, monitor kiln
temperatures all in Windows.
