Laguna Dry Cone 10

The following line of Laguna Dry Glazes are all formulated for Cone 10.  They tend to be traditional, muted, earthy colors.  Most can be fired in oxidation, although many are best in reduction.

In reduction, these glazes will be enhanced by the reduction process.  Impurities and trace metals in the clay and glaze will react with carbon in the kiln atmosphere to create spotting.  Oxides react in various and sometimes spectacular ways.  Each firing creates a certain unique quality in the ware.

Read the description carefully to determine whether oxidation or reduction is advised.  All are lead free and non-toxic, and may be used on dinnerware when fired properly.     Read more about these glazes!   Comments from other users, or submit your own.

Tenmoku No 1
Known traditionally in the Orient as the hare's fur glaze because of the way the brown and black break together on heavy applications. It is an opaque gloss glaze, not suited for use with oxide decoration. It has high iron and medium calcium content.
5 lb - $10.50

WC550
Celadon
Celadon is an ancient, traditional, Asian glaze. It is translucent with a grayish green color and a semi gloss surface. The translucency allows some of the clay body to show through the glaze. Reacts beautifully with most oxides in reduction firing.
5 lb - $9.30

Qty

WC554
Turquoise
An opaque, blue green color with some mottling in larger areas. It does not react well with oxides, and should not be fired in a heavy reduction.
5 lb - $12.70

Qty

WC556
Iron Red
This glaze is a member of the Tenmoku and Kaki family of glazes. It is a rich, red semi gloss glaze which has some mottling. The brightest color is achieved over porcelain or white stoneware in oxidation firing. Dark clay bodies or reduction firing tend to make this glaze red-black. Iron Read does not lend itself to some oxides in decoration.
5 lb - $11.20

Qty

WC557
Blue Brown
An opaque glossy glaze that is a rich blue in areas where the glaze is thicker and brown where it breaks and becomes thinner. For best results Blue Brown should be fired in medium reduction.  In oxidation firing it becomes milky yellow.
5 lb - $9.60

WC558
