You will
use:
One 1.5 x 2.5 Thin Clear fusible COE 96
glass as a base
One 1.5 x 2.5 streaky or swirly fusible COE 96
as a cap
Use mosaic nippers to cut facial features from
a variety of COE 96 fusible stringers, sheet glass, rods and
Dichroic glass. The rods can be nipped and turned up as a cylinder on the
glass. These cylinders will fuse into round dots.
Use Elmers School Gel Glue to glue the facial
features into place on the 1.5 x 2.5 piece of colorful glass.
Place one 4 inch 16 gauge bare copper wire in the
middle of the bottom of the clear base with 3.5 of wire extending out
off of the base. Place 3 or more 16 gauge bare copper wire pieces ranging
from 1 to 3 inches long on the top of the clear base with at least Ό
of the wire remaining on the clear base.
Stack the colorful cap
directly over the clear base on a tile covered with thin fire paper.
Fire the tile and glass
in a kiln at a rate of 350 degrees per hour to 1460 degrees and cool to
960 degrees and hold for 30 minutes.
After the glass has
cooled, use sandpaper or other abrasive device to remove the brown
oxidized copper from the wire.
Using a thin long nail or
punch, push a hole through the center of a cork. Push the thicker copper
wire through the cork. Create a small hook at the end of the wire and pull
the wire back through the cork pushing the hook into the cork. Place beads
on the copper wire on the top of the face. Twist the copper to hold the
beads into place.
