Sample of texturizer on bottles

High Fire
GLAMTH1-sample.gif (128223 bytes)
TH-1 is a rutile base texturizer. In superposition with other glazes it tends to produce a yellowish/orange crystal-type texture.  It will yield excellent results with most AMACO HF Series glazes, or other glazes which are fired at Cone 4-6, when applied over or under the glazes.  As results vary from glaze to glaze, be sure to fire a test sample first

Low Fire
GLAMTL1-sample.gif (18033 bytes)

Apply TL-1 Texturizer over any Cone 06-05 glaze to create different textures.  Surface textures vary depending on the type of base glaze (gloss, matte, or textured), increasing the glaze palette tremendously.  An even wider variety of effects can be achieved by applying TL-1 between coats of two different glazes.

Additives

CMC Gum,  pint A liquefied binder, thickener, suspension and brushing medium agent made of an organic celluose gum.  Also used to increase plasticity of clay bodies.  (Liquid form is best for adding to liquid glazes)

$6.00

CMC, 1 pound dry Used to improve brushability of glazes (dry better for adding to dry glazes before mixing), see above

$11.50

Laguna Brushing Medium, 1 pound dry Used to improve brushability of glazes, see above

$14

Sodium Silicate,  pint Liquid "N" brand Sodium Silicate is used as a major deflucculant in preparing slip.  It reduces the amount of water needed, therefore reducing shrinkage.  This is a pure sodium silicate and must be mixed with water to a 50/50 solution for most casing bodies.

$6

Darvan 7,  pint A deflocculant that is user friendly because it has a wide deflocculation curve.  Does not deteriorate molds as actively as sodium silicate.

$6

Spectrum Brushing Media -1070:
Gum solution that can be added to any glaze or underglaze to improve brushing characteristics.  Lengthens the drying time after the glaze is brushed on, and assists in glaze suspension.  Can be used to convert a dipping or spraying glaze into a brushing glaze.  A rough guideline is to add 5-10% of the glaze volume.
1 pint Brushing Medium
$6.00
1 gallon Brushing Medium
$22.00

Spectrum Glaze Suspender - 1071:
Solution of Bentonite in water, used to help suspend glazes that are settling out.  Amount to use varies widely; rough guideline is 5-10% of the glaze volume.  Keep in mind that the more you add, the thicker or more viscous a glaze will become.
1 pint Glaze Suspender

Spectrum Glaze Thinner - 1072:
It is quite powerful so use sparingly.  Use 2 to 3 drops per 4 oz of glaze.
