Jiffy-Jig Instructions - INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Jiffy-Jig. Your interest in our product just might be the way to increase your production and fatten up that bottom line. Having been a production potter for many years I know the time and energy one invests just to keep ahead of the shows, whether they are retail or wholesale. Production and tots of it, is the key to keeping one’s edge in the marketing game.

I can testify that Jiffy-Jig has worked wonders for me. I’ve been refining and investigating this process tar the past seven years. I’ve found that this production method can be adapted to almost any shape, form or size.

When I first began potting my customers would ask for consistency in shape and size. This concerned me and so I began researching all available materials on production and found the source-pool lacking. The books and magazines covered the general process of potting, but not how to increase my output:

These few adaptations helped considerably, but my production wasn’t up to par, as I felt it should be. But little did I know that soon I would stumble on the mother-load of all techniques. It all started at a small arts and crafts fair where a few of us potters got together and talked about our methods, concerns and of course the economy.

After several hours of discussion an idea began to congeal. One of the potters had come across a little known technique, yet found to be centuries old. By using this method he had increased his production of mugs from a daily quota of 100 upwards to 500. Now this was his daily output.

What had I discovered? After several more talks I went home with my mind spinning and more information that needed to be sifted through. From that day it took me a whole year to develop and refine this technique. It had become mine. I first wanted to know how fresh this production discovery really was. SO I talked to several friends and found that they did not know of the process and encouraged me to market it.

Let me add here, my mug production increased from 45 a day to 96 mugs in less than two hours, in fact I hour and 50 minutes.

**THERE AREA FEW NOTEWORTHY HINTS TO CONSIDER:

1) Make sure the clay is well lubricated with water, but not drenched.  Some people use a spray bottle to accomplish this. To dry off a pot will cause chattering of the clay will loose its integrity and wrap itself around your tool and hand. This can be most disconcerting - so use water.

2) Place the tool snugly against the clay. Sometimes I find that a slight angle away, not out from will cause the clay to glide by and not be forced by the tool.

3) On the inside of the pot press outward firmly from the bottom, this compresses the outer clay and causes a clean look. I place a dab of water here at the outside base before I place the tool. This too prevents cutting away some of the excess clay at the base to create a more finished look.

It is here where one sees the need of Jiffy-Jig. It not only helps in throwing, shaping and sizing, it also eliminates trimming. Now isn’t this tool a time saver!
