TIP #65: Monitoring your Kiln from a Distance

You probably know that kilns should be monitored in case something goes wrong. Many electronic kilns beep when they are finished or if a power outage occurs. It is very useful to check a kiln right when it turns off so you can look at the witness cones and see if they have melted enough. But if the kiln is in another area you can't hear it.

What some people do is use baby monitors. You can usually pick them up for a few dollars at garage sale, or just a discount store. Put one near you kiln and one near where you are, and it is almost as good as being there.
